The Daily Rupee, from The IndiaPay Times satire desk. This is satire.

₹94.96SHARJAH, UAE. A three-hour family video call about a December wedding budget ended in four minutes on Thursday after a cousin who works in the Gulf shared his screen, opened one spreadsheet, and said, “Done only,” participants confirmed.
The call had been scheduled for 90 minutes. Fourteen relatives joined from three continents, and by the time the cousin connected, they had spent 40 minutes deciding whether to discuss the budget in dirhams, dollars, or rupees. It was 9:30 PM in India, noon in New Jersey, and 9 AM in California, a combination one aunt described as “nobody’s fault, but also somebody’s fault.”
An uncle in Edison, NJ, said he was converting only for clarity. He converted the cost of the flower arch into rupees, then dirhams, then back into rupees, arriving at a different number each time. “The arch is either very reasonable or a crime,” he said. “Give me one minute.”
Then the cousin spoke. “Everything is in the sheet,” he said. “Column C is mine. I sent on the first, like always.”
Relatives said the cousin has not missed a monthly transfer in 15 years, a record they compare to the sunrise. He has never asked for a receipt, a thank-you, or a vote on the caterer. The spreadsheet had two tabs. The first was labeled “Mine.” The second was labeled “Others (Pending)” and listed fourteen names, each followed by the words “Will confirm.”
One aunt raised her hand to ask about the agenda item on the DJ. “DJ is in column C,” the cousin said. She asked about the decorations. “Column C.” After a pause, she asked about the sweets. “Column C, and also the boxes for the neighbors.” The aunt reportedly said “Achha” and lowered her hand.
A senior researcher at an institute nobody could name said multi-currency family budget calls expand to fill all available time zones. “There is only one known cure,” the researcher said. “One relative who has already paid.”
The family WhatsApp group received 31 messages in the nine minutes after the call, all thanking the cousin. He replied with a single word: “Welcome.”
By 4 AM India time, his own mother had forwarded him a health tip about warm turmeric water, asked whether he had eaten, and inquired, in the same message, when his own budget call would be.
Not satire: if your family wedding budget lives in two currencies and too many group chats, here is one wedding priced out line by line. Our guide, Guddu’s Dad Is Getting Married Again. We Priced the Wedding., has the real numbers.
