Costco is my favourite museum in America. You don’t buy things there, beta. You adopt them. Twenty-four rolls of paper towels! Priya says, ‘Ravi, where will we keep them?’ Arre, the garage!

Then I see it. A TV. Seventy-five inches. Only nine hundred dollars. And out it comes: ‘Eighty-five thousand rupees!’ Arjun whispers, ‘Dad, please. We live here. That man is staring.’ I tell him, beta, that man is also converting. Every Indian in this store is converting. We just pretend we are not.

Then Priya finds a wheel of cheese, bigger than Anaya. ‘Ravi, who will eat all this?’ Nobody! But per kilo, it is cheaper than air. So we buy it.

My tip: eat lunch at home before Costco. Nobody decides well next to five kilos of cheese. Tell me honestly: what does your dad convert first, the TV or the cheese? For more NRI money stories, visit IndiaPay dot com.
